Why convert HDR to SDR?

HDR and HLG video can look washed out or overly bright in apps and displays that only understand standard dynamic range. Tone-mapping compresses the highlights into a BT.709 SDR video that is easier to share and edit.

Common questions

Does this convert Dolby Vision?

Some Dolby Vision files expose a compatible HDR base layer, but support varies by file and browser. The converter reports an error instead of promising a correct result when the input cannot be decoded safely.

Is the original video uploaded?

No. The source is passed to the local FFmpeg WASM worker in your browser. Only anonymous conversion telemetry is sent when analytics consent allows it.
