What this tool does

A Motion Photo is a JPG with a short MP4 embedded inside, plus Google's motion metadata. This converter re-encodes your clip to a compatible H.264 MP4, captures the first frame as the still image, writes the required XMP metadata, and packs everything into a single .MP.jpg file — the same layout Pixel phones produce.

How to convert

  1. Choose a short video (the first 10 seconds are used).
  2. Click Create Motion Photo and wait for the in-browser encode.
  3. Download the .MP.jpg and transfer it to an Android phone.
  4. Open it in Google Photos or Samsung Gallery to see the motion play.

Common questions

Where does the motion show up?

Google Photos and Samsung Gallery on Android detect the metadata and play the clip. On a computer the file behaves like a normal JPG — that is by design; the video is still inside and can be recovered with our Motion Photo extractor.

Coming from an iPhone Live Photo?

Export the Live Photo as a video first (or use our Live Photo to MP4 tool), then feed that video here to get the Android equivalent.
